Would being a dhimmi involve moving to an Islamic state, or do you just mean associating with Muslims and Islamic culture without officially converted to Islam?

The latter, associating with Muslims without converting to Islam.

Sure, that makes sense. Is there any sect of Islam that you think has particularly good values and would be particularly promising to associate with, or do you still need to more time to do some research on this question?

I need more time, I don't know much about Islam yet.
