Back when GPT came out my mind was blown because it seemed like programmers lacked the competence to cooperate to make something great, so I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw GPT working so well. It then occurred to me that GPT must have all been the work of one guy, who is a lone competent needle in the incompetent haystack of the world, who was able to accomplish this when given billions of dollars to play with. I read the bios of the key people of OpenAI and Ilya Sutskever seemed like the guy.  Now that he is gone, I speculate that OpenAI's progress will stop.
