Why did people of modern culture destroy art?

They made it disposable, devalued it by making it available for free with the help of the internet. There's not much one cannot simply download, except maybe the original sculptures or paintings. But for most people, looking at pictures or videos of them is perfectly enough. And other art forms like music, literature or film doesn't even have that much luck.

Was it a conscious effort? What's the motivation behind this?
