When the Prophet Muhammad married Khadija, his first and most beloved wife, Muhammad's dowry consisted of 12 ounces of gold and 20 camels. These were provided by Muhammad's uncle Abu Talib. The actual wedding between them was very simple and simply consisted of a sermon read by Abu Talib, and a recitation of mutual love between Muhammad and Khadija. There was no extravagant spending or reception party.
If people insist on having expensive weddings, they deserve to remain unmarried, live in sin, and go to Hell for refusing to obey God's Word.
