At my last workplace, one of the people I did work for would sometimes call me to ask me ridiculously trivial questions. And I would answer his questions by Googling them. At first I was puzzled about why he would ask me these instead of Googling them himself. But over time I started to realize that by answering his questions I developed knowledge that became useful later on.
This is a downside that I see to automating trivial tasks. Because sometimes the trivial tasks are practice for more difficult tasks that may appear later on.
